Marc Jacobs Will Make Sure His Louis Vuitton Exhibit Isn’t Boring (nymag)
Today’s _Telegraph_ has new details on Marc Jacobs’s exhibit at the Louvre’s
Musee des Arts Decoratifs: It’s titled “Louis Vuitton — Marc Jacobs,” and
will open on the same night as Louis Vuitton’s fall 2012 show (March 8, the
last night of Paris Fashion Week). Jacobs says the show will take up two
floors, one devoted to his own designs for the house and one devoted to works
by the late Louis Vuitton himself (including one of the label’s first
signature trunks, made in 1869). Katie Grand (who serves as a consultant for
Vuitton’s runway shows) is the official creative consultant for the exhibit,
which will be designed by Sam Gainsbury and Joseph Bennett. Jacobs asserts
that the show will be exciting: “There is nothing more boring than an
educational fashion exhibition in a museum or looking at still clothes on
mannequins or in vitrines,” he says_, _”so the team has come up with some very
interesting ideas.” So now we’re expecting an army of talking mannequins and
dancing 3-D holograms, at the very least.
